We at PCPSI are excited to introduce you to Michael Mokrus, who has been a member of the Narm European teaching faculty for over ten years. Michael is one of a small number of teachers specifically selected by Dr. Laurence Heller to facilitate the NARM training in Europe.
The NeuroAffective Relational Model (NARM) is a psychotherapeutic approach specifically designed to address complex trauma, also known as Complex-PTSD or C-PTSD, which includes attachment, relational and developmental trauma. Developed by Dr. Laurence Heller, NARM integrates various therapeutic orientations such as psychodynamic psychotherapy, attachment theory, gestalt therapy, and somatic psychotherapy. It combines top-down and bottom-up approaches within a relational context.
In this workshop, Michael will provide an overview and introduce participants to the basic concepts of NARM’s theoretical and clinical approach. The training will also include Michael showcasing a demo session. The demo will show what the NARM approach looks like in real-time.
PCPSI will facilitate a comprehensive NARM training in 2024 with Michael Mokrus. This workshop will be a good taster for anyone interested in the full training.

Overview
The NeuroAffective Relational Model (NARM) is an effective developmentally oriented psychotherapeutic approach for addressing adverse and stressful childhood experiences (developmental trauma, K-PTBS) and their long-term effects.
NARM combines psychodynamic and somatic approaches to the treatment of developmental trauma. With an inherent understanding of the functional unity of biological and psychological development inherent in both concept and methodology, NARM works with early patterns of disconnection that deeply influence our identity, emotions, physiology, relationships, and behaviour. The approach is resource-oriented, non-regressive, non-cathartic and non-pathologizing. Therapeutic support focuses on the interplay of various aspects of identity and the capacity for connection and regulation.
NARM emphasizes that it is not the past events themselves but the persistence of survival patterns from the past that lead to present symptoms and disconnection from one’s authentic self and others. The model recognizes the impact of early trauma on identity development, wherein individuals often internalize environmental failure as their own, leading to distorted self-perceptions. NARM focuses on addressing these distortions and physiological dysregulation through precise techniques that target both psychological and physiological aspects. It highlights the interplay between identity, connection, and regulation in the therapeutic process.
